Auschwitz - Reflections on the Holocaust

Auschwitz conjures up images of the dark side of World War 2 and humanity. This book looks at the horror of the place with pictures and the author's personal reflections and asks whether the holocaust could happen again. Does humanity learn from history?

Breweries I Have Known and Lost

There is something very English about pubs and beer. Whilst the brewing industry continues to thrive with the new wave of craft brewers, many established family brewers have disappeared. This book is a personal look at five breweries that are no longer with us.

Linda Gage - "A Guide To Commercial Radio Journalism" (Second edition)

This book is essential reading for any journalist who works - or wishes to work - in radio. It covers every aspect of the profession, from journalistic practice to media law and gives detailed instruction on the techniques of editing and using equipment, and on the basic skills of writing, reporting and producing. A legal section outlines the pitfalls of libel and contempt and shows the main restrictions on reporting, particularly during elections.

Written from a practitioner's standpoint, this is the perfect handbook for anyone involved at any level in commercial or local radio. A classic training manual in the profession, the book was originally written by Linda Gage, former Head of Training at LBC. This edition has been fully revised and updated by Marie Kinsey, Head of Broadcast Journalism at the Northern Media School, Sheffield Hallam University, and Lawrie Douglas, a freelance producer, editor and trainer.

NOTE:  This is the second edition of the book which is currently being updated. This edition is offered for sale at the reduced price of 8 including p&p to a UK address.

A Proper Job
(Available to purchase after publication on 5 March 2022)

A family relative once commented to Des Shepherd that he had never had a 'proper job'. But what is a 'proper job'?

Is it a job where you start after leaving school and stay with it until retirement, such as a career in the Civil Service? Or a corporate company such as a bank? Or possibly in a profession such as teaching or the police force?

In recent years there has been a change. Job security is largely a thing of the past. It is likely that the average adult can expect to change jobs (and even careers) multiple times over their working life.

When he was younger Des said he wanted to work in radio, He was told it wasn't a 'proper job'. But looking back through his working life he feels he has achieved something. He set up his own businesses and pursued what he was passionate about (quality radio training amongst other things).

His work has taken him across the UK, parts of Europe and as far as the Falkland Islands. This account of his working life spans over 50 years and relates his trials & tribulations and disappointments, but also moments of extreme satisfaction. It tells the story of being short-listed for a prestigious education award, arrested by Surrey Police and meeting a gangster who spent over 40 years in prison for murder and other violent crimes.

The RRP for this book is 10.99 plus postage and packing.

However if ordered direct from the author, it is available at a discount price of 9.50 inc p and p (second class Royal Mail to UK address)
